DICE revealed that some of the maps would be scaled down to fit the
console versions of Battlefield 3, and more recently, Patrick Bach
explained more of the changes coming to the console version of
Battlefield 3. According to the executive producer for the game, some
compromises had to be made for the "best possible experience". Earlier
in the year, DICE informed us that 24 players would be the magic number
when it comes to how many players will be hitting the battlefield on PS3
and Xbox 360, but new details from DICE explain that maps will be more
compact than their PC counterparts.
Bach claims that the maps are scaled down in size to what will be found
on PC, but not in the sense that areas are cut out, but that they have
been "compacted slightly" to keep the action up given the reduced number
of players. Bach made reference to the Bad Company franchise and noted
that the maps on Bad Company were anything but small, when you take a
look at the other game's in the genre. Anyone that has ever hoofed it
from spawn to objective can attest to these claims. So while the maps
may be smaller than on the PC, the number of players should make them
feel just right according to DICE.
